De Notenspotters are the youngest music lovers in Helistudio @helistudio_be. This school year along with covid-restrictions the youngest kids have been the lucky ones being able to enjoy the most spotlight through their video concerts.
Yesterday was our 3rd recording with back up from Gerrit @gerritmuylaert on guitar and to cool off from all this hard work Velo Gelato @velogelato came to Helistudio doorstep with the best ice cream there is!
Wonne @wonnevanhoutte will play important audition next week - he gave beautiful example what can happen when a young child stays curious about music - they do grow up with broader look at the world always accompanied by music. Far away in Estonia one of my first piano students graduated from Estonian Music Academy this week. Merilyn is good on the way becoming a new voice in the world of female composers.

Our lesson today was one big laughter - we discovered some funny hacks how to find space, place and peace in using the pedal. And the oldest truth: festina lente! Hurry slowly - very true also in learning the piano.
Beautiful extra is that sooner or later people in Helistudio end up wearing blue-black & white color combination. I’m not trying to ‘estonianize’ my students, but blue is simply the most perfect color to wear behind a black piano, don’t you think? 😉

Who dares to say that playing piano is easy? It’s not! Before it becomes fun, we have to put in serious amount of concentration, dedication, patience and the most important ingredient: whatever crazy sounds happen when you’re working on a new piece, stay positive and believe in yourself!

Piano lessons with children - on one side ‘easy peazy’ and on the other side challenging. Children sincerely like to discover the piano, but they don’t know yet why they really like it... so there’s some motivation to work with, but a lot of it is my work to keep this little flame going. Piano seems and feels fun during first 3 lessons or so and then things get serious. Only practice makes progress every single day.
La Pianista Lou here has come through this tunnel of learning the basics of notes. I see her smile more and more and now she’s the one who takes the lead and asks: can we play it once more?

After 7 months of silence we had a chance to play for live audience again. The weather didn’t matter - the idea that we could share live music with an audience was far above anything else this time. Corona virus has brought so much stillness and distance between us, but music is always a meeting point.
This was Pianomarathon’21 - seeing and hearing each other again note by note. More thoughtful than ever before.
