Yesterday i heard Wonne jamming with his trio. So proud of him - all big things start small and the right attitude is: never wait for a big chance, just play because there is a piano.
So, follow Wonneās example: practice regularly and play anywhere you can - airports, train stations, at your best friends party - be spontaneous and simply share jour joy of playing the piano!

There are many beautiful moments to choose for my last post about this school year and there is so much to sayā¦ We came āoutā from corona times enjoyed the first concerts together again and soon after the war started in Ukraine. Moving from one darkness to the otherā¦
Music is a luxury thing to do for some and a big necessity for others. Iām very aware of both of these ends. The older i become the more i notice the big extremes in life - the painful issues we canāt change immediately, but i do believe we should live with even more awareness. Helistudio benefit concerts for Ukrainian students in Alberreke primary school @bartjonckers this spring were one of those ādeep awarenessā moments. Iām very grateful for this experience.
Music is vitamine M - this is my belief - it doesnāt bring instant happiness, but it adds very valuable breathing space to our mind - this is why we should play piano every day. It helps to balance out all dissonances of life itself. Through music we learn to expand our horizons.
The last video i share of this school year is Robin-Aareās first piano performance. It happened out of the blue about 2 weeks ago. He asked to join the student concert 10 minutes before it started. My mama-heart was not prepared at all, but what matters the most is that he felt he was ready to do this. So, this time the best advice comes from Robin-Aare himself: step up and be more of who you are!

Student concert nr.2 met la pianista Mia @mia.et.moi - dit schooljaar heb ik alleen maar bewondering gehad voor haar grote tijgersprongen. Corona-tijd heeft elke leerling even in mineur modus gebracht, maar dit schooljaar heeft iedereen hun superpowers 1-2-3 terug gevonden! La pianista Mia heeft voorbeeldige sterke piano vingers en die komen alleen door met aandacht te oefenen en niet zomaar af en toe te spelen!

First year piano lessons with Nona @noortje_van_bourgognie is almost over. Wish i could look into the future and see if iām right - already today i feel here is a real musician in becoming!
The seriousness and ease how she creates her little tunes is very special. Most kids need to learn to read the notes and they start playing a bit later. More musical expression comes when reading the notes feels more comfortable.
It seems to me that Nona is kind of an old soul who comes to the piano lesson to simply freshen up everything she already knowsā¦
Last week she said: i really like to practice, because the pieces are finally more difficult! Her āfinallyā touched me very deeplyā¦ her eagerness - something i canāt teach, itās her own inner fire speaking out loud.

Bram Vervliet is associate professor @kuleuven and also one of many outstanding students in my adult piano class @helistudio_be. Yesterday i attended the presentation of his first book āWaarom we bang zijnā - intriguing title, even more intriguing topic!
So far iāve seen Bram unravel piano scores note by note, now iāll discover his ideas word by word. I guess life is kind of a dance between when to be fearless and to learn how itād also be okay to fear a bit less. As piano teacher i believe we need fear to some degree, to keep us alert, but it shouldnāt take over our mindset. Like Shakespeare said: extreme fear can neither fight nor fly.
