Today i was completely blown away already in the first lesson. Nathalie is this busy-bee mom who started piano lessons 2 years ago. It was in her bucket list ‘last deadline: start to play piano at 40’. She did and few months later she sold her car and bought an upright piano instead. So far this is the coolest switch i’ve ever witnessed in my piano class! Nathalie never misses her 2 weekly pianolesson no matter what life throws at her. Very, very strong person. And so today she came, showed me her first successes with her new piece and after playing it through she said: you know what, every time i play the piano, no matter how it goes, i feel as if i return back to me. Just me, the part i otherwise seem to lose.
What a powerful insight!
Yes indeed, learning an instrument is the best me-time there is. However, the road to this happy-place is quite complex: you have to be very patient and determined, humble and honest, always keep an open-mind about every succes and also every failure. Learning piano is like climbing mountains in your own soul.
Nathalie, thank you for this magical monday morning!
